Olive trees existence dates back in the Mediterranean Basin, the Arabian Peninsula, Southern Asia and much of Africa especially Sfax, Tunisia for thousands of years.

That’s why Sfax is the largest olive tree-growing city. Degenerated and non-productive trees are constantly cut to produce olive wood. Each tree embodies its own grain pattern identity in terms of ,features, shapes and colours which offers each olive wood piece unique personality and character ,for this reason,it is often used to make kitchen wares and home furnishings.

The olive tree,Olea Europaea(Oil of Europe) is a medium shaped and very long living species of tree found growing primarily in coastal Mediterranean regions. It was one of the first trees known to have been cultivated, having been grown for agricultural purposes more than 5000years ago.

the olive tree is most famous for its fruit and the oil produced from it. Among carpenters and furniture experts, however, the tree is just as famed for its high wood quality,it is hard, heavy and strong with a high overall density .it has a straight grain with a fine texture.

Due to its rich color and appearance, olive wood is a particularly a sought-after material for use in decorative and kitchen ustencils items.the wood contains brown streaks that contrast attractively with the lighter yellow streaks of the sapwood. A dinstict but not unpleasant odor addsto the overall character of olive wood.the wood’s slightely sweet smell is particularely noticeable when freshy cut or when worked with tools.items made from olive wood will generally retain this faint aroma for many years.

The high natural durabilty of olive wood makes it ideal for furnture and kitchen ustecils manufacturing.as compared with other types of wood, the olive woodis rarely sold or available as lumber. When it is sold, olive wood lumber is normally very expensive and cut into small pieces. The wood is often used to make small items and larger finished objects are scarce, highly desirable and expensive.
